Our approach

Small groups, steady progress

Four students, one tutor, the same time every week. Here's what happens before, during and after every session — and how we measure progress.

Why four?

Big enough to learn together, small enough to be seen

One-to-one tutoring can feel like an interview. Big classes let quiet students hide. A group of four gives every student time with the tutor, and peers to learn from.

  • Each student speaks, solves and explains in every session.
  • Groups are matched by skills, not only by grade.
  • The same tutor all term, so nothing is lost between sessions.

What happens in 60 minutes

Every session follows the same rhythm, so students know what to expect and can settle in quickly. Writing workshops and test prep use longer blocks.

Tutors plan each session from the previous week's notes — nothing is generic.

  1. 0–10 min

    Warm-up

A quick review of last week's topic, solved out loud.

  2. 10–25 min

    New idea

The tutor introduces one new concept with worked examples.

  3. 25–45 min

    Guided practice

Students work in pairs, then alone, while the tutor checks in with each one.

  4. 45–55 min

    Explain it back

Each student teaches one problem to the group — the best test of understanding.

  5. 55–60 min

    Wrap-up

Practice for the week and a quick confidence check.

Friday notes

You'll always know how it's going

Every Friday, families get a short note from their child's tutor: what was covered, how it went and one thing to practise at home.

At the end of each term, a longer progress review compares where your child started with where they are now, and recommends what's next.

Results

Progress you can see

We test at the start and end of every term using the same short assessments, so improvements are measured — not guessed.

Results vary from student to student and depend on attendance and practice at home.

Safety & standards

Trusted with your children

The standards every tutor and session meets — no exceptions. Read our full safeguarding policy.

  • Background checked

Every tutor passes an enhanced background check before their first session, renewed every two years.

  • Qualified & trained

Tutors hold a teaching qualification or a degree in their subject, plus our own training programme.

  • Open rooms

Rooms have glass doors and a staff member is always on site. Online sessions are recorded for safety.

  • First aid on site

At least one first-aid-trained adult is in the centre during every session.

  • Private by default

Progress notes go only to parents and guardians. We never share student information.

  • Every learner welcome

Tell us about learning differences and we'll plan around them with you.
